We did it! After hours, days, weeks, years of uncertainty and nausea, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we have better than the best man for the job! It has brought joy throughout my entire day, and even though a little over half of Californians can die in the fires of my asshole, I still have hope that we will pull through whatever shit that the religious right have embedded in people's psyches.
However, it's not Paradise. I still have to work part time for a job that pays pennies in the bucket, I still have no prospects for future employment; all interviews and jobs that were on the horizon for me have either been non communicative or have said they're going in another direction. I love that phrase. Sometimes its true... sometimes its just something people say to be kind about the whole situation.
Odd, I get off work, come home, apply for jobs, and then try and rest as best I can before I have to zip off to rehearsal. It's an odd life for me right now. A very temporary time, to be sure; the show plus run is only 7 weeks long. I certainly wish it was longer and better paid... and was in Marin, so that it would be an easier hike... but anyway. That's a lot of wishes, and to make things better I should change my attitude rather than the environment. And it has been an amazing amount of fun... and an amazing amount of work.
So yes, bettering myself for the good of... myself. And my nation, I suppose. I've never felt this much pride in America. Ever. Hm. Maybe I'll go into politics.

Home Again Home Again
It's odd, preparing to sleep in a bed I haven't slept in for a month.. or two. It's odd. It really is. Staying at mom's, because Monica and I's house is spooky (zzz) when it's just one person there.
Things are good; I'm going to start working for Bruce's brother on Friday. Pay's bad, but it's in cash, and fun and delicious. New skills, all that shit. This will come well, especially after I just paid my student loan bill, the last one for a bit before my deferment starts.
Still feel a little weirded out about working for this little money at this time in my life. I need to save up as much as I can get. Sure as hell I wasn't weirded out about getting work. Perhaps that's why I've been... not avoiding this phone call to this company in the city, but just not super eager to get contacted with them. I have dreams and shit that I wish I could accomplish. I have dreams that I don't have to do admin shit for the rest of my life. But... tomorrow I'm going to call, and set up an interview, and see what's going on.
Aaaand, working with Kele tomorrow on music! I don't know how we're going to start, but I printed out somet stuff that I'm thinking of using for auditions. She's the teacher though, so starting at the beginning always works well.

Back again.
I think I've been hung up rehearsing and such to really update, and to be completely honest, it's been more of the same. I've not had much update from the job front, and I continue to apply for at least 10 places a day, more if I'm really on the ball. But for the most part lately, I've been having fun singing "Fantasies Come True" with Monica, and working on Goodnight, Daniel. It's going to be a good show, not a great one, but that's okay, it's a very new piece, and new pieces are hard.... the author is lucky to have a really good guy as a director, who really loves the piece.
Breast of Broadway was last night, and was really really fun. Deb said I was perfect with my delivery, but the most important part is that I had a blast. When it boils down to it, having fun was the goal of the whole evening, and when I stopped being such an ass and dwelling on things, realizing that no matter what we're going to do well, then it turned out better than we could have possibly even imagined. And seeing Monica's face at the end, full of pride and love, was the true prize for me. Plus, free booze was cool.
So, job interview this afternoon with Bruce's brother. Then rehearsal. Then I think I'm going to buy a chair. Short post, but I've always had the problem of writing less than necessary.
Oh right, we went to Vegas last week. Did I forget to mention that?

This Post Turned Into Something I Dislike
I worked it out. If my check doesn't come tomorrow... or today for some stupid reason, the next time I'd probably get an answer would be on Tuesday. I hate this. I mean, I like the money from the government, the money that I rightfully deserve because I'm awesome. Anyway, I can probably make it through the weekend and survive. Almost. I'll have to really think about it, but that's what happens when you're as lazy and spend as much money as I do.
Other than that, I'm getting through the last season of Kim Possible. And then possibly (ha!) start them over again; it's such a really cool show. Too bad the video games are lacking, but that's usually the problem with video game spinoffs of things like movies or television or burger franchises.
Also had to go to the unemployment place today and have a job searching class. There was a neat little workshop that they advertised on the "Hidden Job Market" talking about how only 20% of job openings are advertised, and just about 80% of the people who need jobs are going after that... and there's blah blah blah too many people going after the jobs that are posted, but this huge amount of stuff goes unseen. I may take it, but then again, I may just start calling some places around here and inquiring about open jobs, talking to people with informational interviews and shit.
So anyway. This fucking post turned into something about job searching. What's up with that?
To break the ice, I'll say that this new Gilette Fusion razor is off the fucking hook. More blades equals more awesomeness. Also, I'm excited about going to do the show tonight, and that I've done some good marketing of myself over the past week. I do need to go over my lines though, and KP and blogger are certainly keeping me from this task, but meh, I'll just do it at the theatre. Also hopefully Beth will stop at some delicious fast food place so I can eat. I hate not eating, and it happens more and more lately. I know it's just stress, mostly from not having my check and not having a job, and just strangeness going on in my life right now. Anyway, tomorrow I'll work a little more on making some press packets to some places I've forgotten.
Got the review done, it's a good one. And today I looked at some of my old reviews, and gosh darned it, but I have a pretty good writing style sometimes. Others, well, let's just say it could have one more revision. And I'm still hungry. And this post is a little boring, now that I read this. Whatever, 's all good.
Oooh, Ron turned evil again! Gotta watch this pretty awesome fight scene.

There's a firing happening in the conference room next to me.
My goal for the past few weeks was to apply for at least 5 jobs a day. For the most part, I do it, and have applied for 10 or more a day for the past 3 days. Pretty fun stuff. Hey, at least it keeps me away from doing the previously mentioned nonwork that I do here. It's been okay so far, aside from the silly things that Leah's been saying. Obviously she's wanted me out of here as much as I've wanted to be out of here. Good thing she's passive aggressive; for the most part I can just ignore her.
Of course, my other goal was to walk during lunch, and that's not been too well. But I've been busy, so that happens.
Good news though! Completely off book for Midsummer! It took me much less time than I originally planned, I just had to plug away at it and the roadblocks vanished! I wonder how our minds work like this; one second the monologue won't get in your head, the next it's there solid like some sort of rock like thing. It's the magic of theatre. Now if only I could get behind actually working harder at rehearsals. For the most part, I've been doing the same thing over and over... my goal for this week is to add some more humanity, and conversely, some more equinity to him. Last night I was just so fucking tired. But that's what I gotta do.

Events! Or, Whatever Happened to Sarcasm?
Hi folks. The past days have been pretty cool. Monday evening mom helped me out with my interview etiquette (specifically for my interview on Tuesday for AEA, but the tips were great in general). It was lovely to spend some time with my mom. I miss her a lot. It also made me realize how messy my room was. Funny how that works; we only realize how messy it is until other people come into our lives. Not that she cared.. it's just awkward at times.
Also on Monday - did I mention this already? - Leah told me that my last day would be July 31st. Our new person, Elaine would be starting on Tuesday. It shook me up a little, but I know I'm going to find a new soul sucking job sometime soon. I just have to keep putting my energy out there and look for something new. Besides, I have some resumes in the works, and hopefully Good Earth will call me any time now... *begins quiet sobbing*. I think I need to call them today and remind them that I'm interested; that's a good thing right? When someone kindly asks about a job, the worst thing they can say is no.
Until July 31. I wonder if they thought I'd be productive with the knowledge of when I leave. The answer is I will still be as productive as I've ever been. And now to load some Puzzle Pirates. Seriously though, there's some filing to do, and stuff that has needed to be done for a while, because there wasn't a second person here. Oh right, that thing, the fact that we need more than 1 person running the front office; that little gem. If they need a third person, I'm going to try and make sure that I have another job if they try and offer me my old job back.
I'm also still debating whether or not I should quit my job in this time, or have them do the lay off. I'll talk to Leah about this sometime this week to see what the status would be here. Shit, I sound like a real grown up person.
Tuesday I met Elaine. My replacement. It's an odd relationship. On one hand, I'm giving her some training, which is helping me with my "I can train people" skills. On the other, she's my replacement. On the other, she's kind of a dipshit. It's really strange. She's better than some people for certain, and maybe it's just a learning curve. But I was a little better than this when I first started. Nervous and chatty yes, but then again, I'm 20 years younger than she is, and infinitely more confident. Maybe it's the theatreblood that runs through my veins. We trained a bit on filing, phones, email, etc. The normal shit. She confessed to me that she's not very good with computers. Terrific. Had an encounter with Short Man Syndrome, and he reiterated some Important Information that he Commanded yesterday. How fun.
Leaving at 2:30, I was full of glee and nervousness myself; I had my phone interview with AEA at 3:30. I got home, dressed nicely (for I am one to use psychology in this situation) and sat down to go over my notes. At EXACTLY 3:30, I called, and proceeded to have an amazing interview for the next hour. It would be a good job for me. It would be a life changing job though, and I'd have to give up theatre if have it; too much travel. Sounds counterintuitive to move to LA and work with the union to not be able to act. It's not like I've accepted it; if they want me, I'll definitely think about it before saying no.
Monica and I had Macho Burritos for dinner, and I've just now digested mine. It sure hit the spot for TWELVE HOURS. Of course, now I'm hungry again. It was good to see her at a point when we weren't either asleep or frantically trying to kill a rat. By the way, we have rats.
Yesterday evening was the opening night of Mountian Days! Woohoo! I knew most of the words, and didn't fuck up as much as I thought I would. It is a good show, and more importantly, it'll help me more to be in with the Willows - equity card anyone? It's only a 3 show run - very good - and I've made some fun friends, as well as just now realizing there's a cool party this Friday after the show! Hello talking to people and drinking! This'll be a blast.
(bleh, speaking of drinking, this coffee is way too strong.)
This morning was more of the same working with Elaine. She's smarter than the average bear, but not as intuitive as I am. It takes a few times for her to get something down, but once she gets it, it looks like she gets it. That's good, but still annoying in the learning process. My hope is that once she learns everything, she'll truly understand it, and maybe the fury of the ages that this person is getting paid more than me will cease.
Tonight is more Mountain Days, a thank you note to AEA, and probably some Team Fortress 2 beforehand. The day itself will be full of boredom. Hurray.

Real Life Stage Lighting
Hope hope hope. Put some good energy out there for me, will you? I found a job from craigslist for Good Earth Natural Foods, right in Fairfax - hello biking and walking distance! Today I sent in a text version of my resume so that in case they didn't get my pdf yesterday for some unknown reason, they'll now have this to love and cherish. Tomorrow I'm going to call them and see what the application process is like; shows eagerness and willing too. I really hope I get it. I'd like to be able to bike to work, and to have a little bit of creativity in my day. It would be practically perfect for me... well if it had theatre involved too it would be better, but other than that... yes it would!
Last night I experienced typical Rich behavior of not respecting actors and blah blah blah. So I left early. You heard me right: I had no reason to leave early, but I just left, saying I needed to go, and then walked out. This whole process, while fun whenever the music director is there, is hideously stupid when we actually have the artistic director around. But that's how it was with Sunrise, why would it be any different now? It isn't. Fuck them. At least with Sunrise they paid us, and treated us with a little bit of respect that is due to actors. For this... no pay, and here we are, not being told how important we are; at least not by the director, our music director/composer is very complimentary. He's the reason I haven't quit all together; he's really helping me with my music.
However, tonight's rehearsal is in Danville. They sprung that on us. Either it was already there in the schedule (likely, now that I look at it) and I didn't just register it, or they just said SURPRISE, get ready to drive! It's more likely the former... but I've never thought about skipping a rehearsal more than I have with this one. The more I think about it... the more I'm going to do it. I can make up some crappy excuse like the car broke down or something like that: we're not called till 8, and released at 10.. and while rehearsing with the orchestra is important, we'll have the opportunity to do it Friday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Also... I've worked with an orchestra before. I really need to think on this. People are missing those rehearsals all the time; that's what you get with volunteers. A night off would be nice. Never thought it would come to me missing rehearsals...
What else is new? I had a callback yesterday for this great , and then was given another one today, to read with one of the actors already cast! It's a great project, but I can't talk about it; I'll just say that I'm excited, and would love to be a part of it.
The light's been very strange here ever since the fires. It makes these wonderful shadows on the ground from the small trees outside. It almost looks as if we're in a theatre, and it's a direct leko light on the ground from offstage. Yes, I'm a geek. But it's beautiful.

Accounting Makes Me Work Harder
So, new station.
I sit near Accounting now, in front of a red wall. I feel very dotcom. Very power wall. Very much like I made a lot more than I really do. Maybe some of that will influence the powers that be and I'll accidentally make an extra $100,000 on my next paycheck. Maybe not.
It's a little strange. I would be able to articulate it better if my soul and mind haven't been sucked dry by the moving in office and the stupidity of coworkers today. Every time someone walks through this back door, they get a proud smirk on their faces as if to say, "Oh, Ben's sitting by Accounting now! Isn't that a hoot?" And then they ask how I like my new desk.
It's actually nice. Lots of natural light, a quick escape if I need a breath of fresh air, and I see people coming in. All in all, pretty cool. Accounting peeps are so engrossed in their own stuff that I really can do whatever they want, and whenever they do see me doing something, they mostly notice the fact that I'm typing, so it doesn't matter to them what I'm typing on. Especially if I keep a bored and slightly annoyed look on my face, perhaps with a sprinkle of whimsy at times. My normal expression to not attract attention.

For some reason I haven't been getting down and dirty applying for more schools. I know I really need to get that UCLA one out and out by this weekend, but I haven't sat down and paid them and figured out how the letters of recommendation will work. They, like all of LA, live in their own little world and don't accept online uploads of recommendations like EVERY OTHER SCHOOL I'VE APPLIED TO. So I have to send requests all across the country. How quaint.

Just recieved a text message from AT&T saying that my online account was set up. I don't remember that happening or requesting, but online accounts are cool, maybe I'll check it out later tonight. I still don't really have this text message dealio down. Does the incoming text count away from my total every month? I don't do enough for it to really matter... it's just something to puzzle over. When I get over 200 texts a month, that's a time to worry and upgrade to infinite.
For now though, all good. I'm enjoying this phone every day, and even the naysayers (some anti apple people at work) are actually charmed by it.

For some reason I haven't been getting down and dirty applying for more schools. I know I really need to get that UCLA one out and out by this weekend, but I haven't sat down and paid them and figured out how the letters of recommendation will work. They, like all of LA, live in their own little world and don't accept online uploads of recommendations like EVERY OTHER SCHOOL I'VE APPLIED TO. So I have to send requests all across the country. How quaint.

Just recieved a text message from AT&T saying that my online account was set up. I don't remember that happening or requesting, but online accounts are cool, maybe I'll check it out later tonight. I still don't really have this text message dealio down. Does the incoming text count away from my total every month? I don't do enough for it to really matter... it's just something to puzzle over. When I get over 200 texts a month, that's a time to worry and upgrade to infinite.
For now though, all good. I'm enjoying this phone every day, and even the naysayers (some anti apple people at work) are actually charmed by it.
Everyone says that it should be 3G though. Maybe someday. But for now, I don't really know the difference; I've never had a really powerful phone before. I'm excited now that I'm not as scared.
And now I'm thirsty.
